Over 1,500 pounds of ganja seized in St Thomas, truck driver arrested
A truck driver was arrested on Wednesday night after his vehicle was intercepted and found with a large quantity of ganja in Morant Bay, St Thomas.
This is the latest in a series of recent ganja busts in the parish by the police.
The police report that around 10:30 p.m., officers from the St Thomas Highway Patrol, acting on intelligence, stopped a truck that was travelling along Church Street in Morant Bay.
According to the police, several large knitted bags containing ganja were found in the back of the truck.
The driver, a haulage contractor from Clarendon, was taken into custody, and both the ganja and the truck were seized.
A subsequent check revealed that the ganja weighed over 1,500 pounds.
Charges are expected to be laid pending further investigation.
