The Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information has launched BullyProofJA, a digital campaign aimed at tackling the damaging effects of bullying in schools and communities across Jamaica.

With the rallying cry “Block the Hate, Build the Love,” the ministry says it is affirming its commitment to ensuring that every child feels safe, supported, and valued.

“BullyProofJA represents a commitment to building resilience, fostering empathy, and promoting a culture of respect and inclusion,” the ministry said in a statement on Friday.

It said the initiative seeks to equip students with the knowledge and tools to recognize bullying, respond effectively, and support others, while empowering schools, parents, and communities to prevent harmful behaviours.

The campaign follows the recent proclamation of October 7 as National Anti-Bullying Day, championed by the Child Protection and Family Services Agency and the ministry.

Minister of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, Senator Dr Dana Morris Dixon, said the ministry is committed to addressing bullying in a sustained and collaborative manner.

“We cannot ignore the pain of those who feel voiceless and unsafe in their own schools. Through BullyProofJA, we are stepping forward with urgency, compassion, and determination to ensure that every child knows they are not alone, and that their well-being matters,” she said.

Morris Dixon added that the campaign is designed not only to raise awareness but also to inspire action and empower students to speak out. “Too many of our students are being targeted because of their appearance, background, academic performance, or differences in personality and abilities. No child should suffer in silence,” she said.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Kasan Troupe stressed the importance of a collective response.

“BullyProofJA is a call to action for teachers, parents, and community leaders to come together in support of our students. By blocking the hate and building the love, we can strengthen resilience, promote inclusion, and give every child the opportunity to thrive,” he said.

The campaign will use digital platforms to spark conversations, share resources, and mobilize communities. MOESYI and CPFSA will also lead anti-bullying initiatives islandwide, including school assemblies, workshops, creative showcases, and national competitions, while engaging communities through outreach to parents, local leaders, and members of the clergy.
