The police say a man who was killed in Kingston East on Monday during a confrontation with law enforcers was a suspect in the multiple shooting incident at the intersection of Text Lane and Charles Street in Kingston last week.

The deceased man has so far only been identified as 'Southie'.

Reports indicate that about 5:10 a.m., a police team, comprising of members from the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) and the Kingston East police, carried out an operation on Maiden Street in Dunkirk, Kingston 16.

The police force's Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) says during the search of a premises, the suspect attempted to evade arrest and opened gunfire at them.

The police reportedly responded and the assailant was shot.

CCU says an Astra-A70 pistol with three rounds of ammunition was seized during the incident.

The injured man was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The police say Monday's operation in Kingston East was part of the intensification of investigations into the October 8 shooting which claimed the life of 17-year-old Jadore Campbell and resulted in the injury of several others.

They say the deceased was wanted for questioning in relation to the murder of Campbell, who succumbed to his injuries while in hospital on Saturday.
