JDF Coast Guard recovers body of man from river in St James
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) says the Coast Guard has recovered the body of a man who was suspected of drowning at the Step River in St James on Sunday.
The man was reportedly attempting to cross the river when he was swept away by the currents.
The JDF was asked to assist with the search and recovery efforts.
A dive team from The Second District Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard was deployed to the location where an underwater search was conducted and the body recovered.
The body was handed over to the police, who are investigating the matter.
The Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard is reminding the public to exercise caution around rivers that are in spate, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
