Update |Central Village man charged in house sale scam granted $1 million bail
The Central Village, St Catherine man charged for allegedly selling a house he does not own and collecting over $2 million was today granted $1,000,000 bail with surety in the parish court.
Jaheim Douglas, 24, is charged with obtaining money by means of false pretence.
Douglas was ordered to reappear in court on January 20, 2026.
Allegations are that between October 2024 and April 2025, the complainant saw an unoccupied house in a section of Central Village, St Catherine, and made enquiries.
Douglas, a resident of the community, allegedly put himself forward as the owner of the house and claimed that it was on sale for $8,000,000.
The complainant reportedly made payments totalling $2.4 million to the accused.
Before the deal was closed, it was revealed that Douglas was not the owner of the premises and could not furnish documents for the house.
A report was made to the Central Village police, and an investigation was launched, which resulted in Douglas' arrest.
He was charged following a question-and-answer session.
