A 17-year-old Hanover boy has been arrested and charged for the shooting of a man in Lucea.

He was taken into custody recently after he turned up at a hospital with a gunshot wound.

He is charged with wounding with intent, using a firearm to commit a scheduled offence, and possession of prohibited weapon.

The police reported that about 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, a man was purchasing items at a shop in the area when he was beckoned by the teen, who requested one of the items he had bought.

After receiving the item, the teen allegedly pulled a firearm, pointed it in the man’s direction and opened fire.

The man received gunshot wounds to his neck and left thigh, however, he managed to escape and was assisted to the hospital by passers-by.

He was admitted in serious but stable condition.

A report was subsequently made to the police and an investigation was launched.

On Sunday, November 23, the teen was arrested after he turned up at a hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound.

He was formally charged on Thursday, November 27, based on statements collected implicating him.

His court date is being finalised.
