In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, Give Back Jamaica joined forces with non-profit organisations to deliver relief to families across St Elizabeth and Westmoreland.

Hopeton Brown, president of Give Back Jamaica, coordinated with the South Wales Jamaica Society, the Friends of Porus, the Xana Romeo Foundation and the Anderson-Cover Foundation to ensure aid reached even the most remote areas.

“Give Back Jamaica has consistently prioritised community service as its core mission,” Brown said. “Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, the organisation partnered with other groups to leverage collective resources and maximise impact.”

Relief packages containing food, hygiene items and other essentials were distributed widely, with special attention given to St Elizabeth’s baseball community. Families connected to the Discovery Bay Dolphins in Woodstown, Farm Town and Bethel Town received support.

Aid also reached the Maroons in Accompong and families in northwest St Elizabeth, Brompton, Giddy Hall, Middle Quarters and Westmoreland communities, including Whitehouse, Ferris Cross and Darliston.

Brown said direct contact with survivors underscored the importance of the mission. “Helping even one family offered a sense of accomplishment,” he said.
