A psychiatric evaluation has been ordered by the St Catherine Parish Court for the 53-year-old man charged with the murder of his 80-year-old mother, whose decomposing body was found inside their home.

Paulo Grant made his first court appearance today and was remanded to return to court on February 3, 2026.

The prosecution asked that Grant be relocated from the Bog Walk police lock-up to the St Catherine Adult Correctional Centre.

Allegations are that about 11:10 a.m. on November 30, the body of 80-year-old retiree Jasmine Grant, otherwise called Sister Grant, of Cheesefield district, was discovered at home.

The police were summoned.

Upon arrival, the body was found on the floor in an advanced state of decomposition.

The body also had several incised wounds.

The woman’s son, who was found at the premises, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He was subsequently charged following a question-and-answer session.
