The Blood of Jesus – Part 2

Dwight Fletcher | The blood of Jesus is for you

HAVE YOU ever heard the phrase “the blood of Jesus is against you?” Whether you’ve heard it shouted in warfare prayer or jokingly said in a conversation, did you understand what it truly means? Last week, we spoke about the benefit of Jesus’ blood. While in the West, we often look at blood as a sign of death, the eastern and biblical cultures view blood as a sign of life (Leviticus 17:11).

So, from Genesis to Revelation, when blood is used in the Bible, it has serious implications. When people say that the “blood of Jesus is against you” or any variation, they are referring to the power of the blood and the protection it brings. But I want to make it clear that this power does not come from the blood itself, but from the covenant that the blood secures.

Any reliance on the blood to protect, cleanse and restore, is only effective if we are in a covenantal relationship with God the Father – no covenant, no power. Once you get a grasp of this, you will come into a greater revelation of what it means to be a Christian, the love of God and the amazing place of privilege for heirs in the kingdom of God.

So, let’s understand the blood covenant. God is a God of covenants. He made them with Abraham, Noah, the Children of Israel, David, and ultimately with Christians.

However, when we think of a covenant, most of us are actually thinking of a contract. They are not the same at all. A contract is legally binding, but it has an end. It is based on law and cancelled immediately upon failure by one of the parties to hold up their end of the bargain. On the other hand, a covenant is a spiritual agreement, a binding pledge, and can be perpetual. It is based on a relationship and not on either of the parties holding their end of the bargain.

A covenant is a powerful thing, and God’s covenant with us through the blood of Jesus is the most powerful of all. Hebrews 9:15 (NIV) says, “For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance — now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.”

Hebrews 8 also tells us that this new covenant holds better promises than the covenant before. The Blood of Jesus speaks for believers, bringing us into intimate relationship with the Almighty God. It is the reason we can declare verses such as Romans 8:31-32 (NIV), “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all — how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?”

It is why we can sing stanzas like, “What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”

The blood of Jesus speaks for mercy on my behalf in Jesus’ Name.

— The blood speaks that I am clean in Jesus.

— The blood speaks peace to my heart (Colossians 1:20).

— The blood speaks access to God’s presence (Hebrews 10:19).

— The blood speaks victory over darkness.

— The blood speaks my healing

The blood of Jesus is the seal of our covenant with God. The blood will speak better things for you in Jesus’ Name. Once you are a believer, the blood of Jesus is for you, not against you. And you can call upon His blood when you need saving, restoring, protecting and so much more.
