The Senate is scheduled to meet on Friday, with Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Senator Kamina Johnson Smith set to make a statement during the sitting at Gordon House.

The Upper House will convene at 10 a.m., its usual time.

In addition to the foreign minister’s statement, several pieces of legislation are to be tabled as part of the Senate’s public business, according to a notice from the Houses of Parliament.

These include the Criminal Records (Rehabilitation of Offenders) Act, 2025, which was approved in the House of Representatives last week.

The bill proposes to introduce automatic expungement for certain old, non-custodial convictions.

Also to be tabled is the Jamaica Promotion Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2025, along with the Trade (Standard Incandescent Light Sources) (Prohibition, Except Under Licence) Order, 2025, and an accompanying resolution.

The agenda further includes resolutions to establish the several committees of the Senate, a routine but necessary step to facilitate the Upper House’s legislative and oversight functions.

Tomorrow's sitting is expected to be the last before the break for the Christmas holidays.
