Daughters of the late Don Wehby, Stephanie (second left) and Abigail, accept a plaque from President, Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, Metry Seaga, inducting Wehby in the PSOJ 31st Hall of Fame on Monday. Sharing in the moment is Wehby’s sister, Dorothea Ziadie.

GraceKennedy’s global headquarters in downtown Kingston will be renamed The Don Wehby Building. The tribute was announced on Monday at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, where the late former Group CEO was also inducted into the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica’s (PSOJ) Hall of Fame.

Wehby, who died in July, was celebrated for a career that reshaped one of the country’s largest conglomerates and strengthened ties between business, community development, and national progress.

Frank James, GraceKennedy’s Group CEO, said renaming the Harbour Street headquarters was a fitting and permanent acknowledgement of Wehby’s vision. The building, opened in 2019 during Wehby’s tenure, had embodied his insistence that GraceKennedy remain rooted in Jamaica even as it expanded globally.

“Don often spoke of GraceKennedy as a global company headquartered in Jamaica, and for him, the new GK headquarters was far more than a building,” James said. “It represented a promise that GraceKennedy would proudly remain anchored at home … It is fitting that this building will now bear his name.”

James also described Wehby’s induction into the PSOJ Hall of Fame as a deeply meaningful moment for the entire GraceKennedy family and the nation, “This is a well-deserved honour for a leader who truly changed lives, uplifted communities, and left Jamaica better than he found it. As we honour Don tonight, we recommit ourselves to the GraceKennedy core values he lived by – honesty, integrity, trust, commitment, humility, and respect, and to his unshakable belief in Jamaica’s potential.”

James also announced a joint $1 million donation from GraceKennedy and the PSOJ to the Grace & Staff Community Development Foundation’s Chairman’s Scholarship Fund. The fund, established and led by Wehby during his chairmanship from 2022 to 2025, will support fifth-form students in Jamaica’s western parishes affected by Hurricane Melissa, helping them complete the school year and prepare for CSEC examinations.

Wehby’s daughters, Stephanie and Abigail, accepted the PSOJ Hall of Fame honour on his behalf. “This honour meant a great deal to our father … and it means a great deal to us as well,” said Stephanie. Abigail added, “It is such a beautiful thing to receive this honour on his behalf, and we are sure he is smiling down on us.”

The evening’s recognition of Wehby’s contributions was rounded out with the reading of a citation by former GraceKennedy Financial Group CEO and longtime colleague, Grace Burnett, and the formal presentation of the award by PSOJ President, Metry Seaga.
