The St Andrew North police have charged a 21-year-old man in connection with the seizure of an illegal firearm along Airy Castle Road in Stony Hill on Monday night.

De-ario Case, who is from a Cavaliers address in St Andrew, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

Reports are that about 10:20 p.m. Case was seen riding a motorcycle along Airy Castle Road and was signalled to stop. The police alleged he attempted to make a U-turn but was unsuccessful, abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot. He was chased, apprehended and searched.

A silver and black Astra A-80 9mm pistol fitted with an empty magazine was reportedly taken from him. The police say the firearm’s serial number was erased.

He was taken to the Constant Spring Police Station where he was processed and later charged.

Sections of Stony Hill, including Brooks Level Road and Airy Castle Road, have been under curfew since last Wednesday.

The police are again appealing to residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or the whereabouts of known criminals.

The seizure is the third firearm recovered by the St Andrew North Police Division since the start of the year, amid intensified operations targeting gun-related crimes.
