The father of a three-year-old boy who was killed during a home invasion on Saturday in Denham Town, Kingston, has died from injuries sustained in the attack, the authorities said Monday.
He has been identified as Kiero Pinnock.
Another son, an eight-year-old, who was also injured in the attack, has been treated and released from hospital.
The incident occurred along Nelson Street when gunmen entered the family’s home and opened fire, injuring Pinnock and his two children, reports say.
The three-year-old boy, Jace ‘Zaza’ Pinnock, was pronounced dead at the hospital, while his father succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
The Major Investigation Division is now probing the double murder and shooting.
Ladonia Cunningham could not let it go. She wore it on her head as a stark and painful reminder of the manner in which her infant son, Jace ‘Zaza’ Pinnock, was slain.
Hours after her three-year-old was shot dead, his mother, Ladonia Cunningham, he walked up and down Nelson Street clutching the bullet-pierced, blood-soaked brief her baby had been wearing when gunmen attacked.
“My baby was just three. A weh unuh want with my babyfather? Jesus! Fada God! Only You. Only You. Look pon mi three-year-old white brief,” she kept repeating.
Minister of National Security and Peace, Dr Horace Chang, condemned the attack as “senseless,” describing it as a tragic reminder of how violence disproportionately affects the most vulnerable.
“At three years old, this child should have been surrounded by love, laughter and protection — not caught in the crossfire of criminal violence,” he said, calling for the perpetrators to be held accountable.
Chang, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, urged members of the public with information to come forward to assist the police, noting that enforcement alone is insufficient to break cycles of gang violence.
Member of Parliament for Kingston Western, Desmond McKenzie, also condemned the attack, reiterating calls for unity against criminal violence in the area.
