Carlos Cabrera appointed CEO of KFTL
Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) has announced the appointment of Carlos Cabrera as its new chief executive officer, effective August 1, 2025.
Cabrera succeeds outgoing CEO Captain Jedrzej Mierzewski, who led the company for the past four years and is leaving Jamaica to pursue other professional opportunities. KFTL expressed gratitude for Mierzewski’s dedicated service and extended best wishes for his future endeavours.
Cabrera joined KFTL in 2021 as chief operating officer and has served in that role with distinction. During his tenure, he played a key role in optimising terminal operations, improving efficiency, and enhancing service delivery. His leadership has been central to KFTL’s growth as a premier container transshipment hub.
He credits the dedication, resilience and professionalism of his team for the important improvements the company has made in safety, efficiency, equipment and infrastructure. “That progress is something to be proud of”, Cabrera said, “and that same shared effort will carry us into the next phase of our journey”.
According to the company, Cabrera’s extensive experience in port logistics and strategic execution makes him well-positioned to lead KFTL through its next phase of development.
KFTL stated that it is confident Cabrera’s leadership will drive continued growth and deliver exceptional value to its partners and stakeholders. As CEO, Cabrera will be responsible for shaping the terminal’s long-term vision, with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and strengthening Jamaica’s role in the global supply chain. He will also oversee the Westlands expansion project, a major initiative in collaboration with principal CMA CGM, the Government of Jamaica, and KFTL.
Cabrera is excited for this next stage of growth. “I’m incredibly proud of what KFTL represents. We are playing a vital role in the country’s logistics future, and we are writing a chapter in Jamaica’s maritime history”.
