Cuba National Day - Celebration of a revolution

The Latin American community in Jamaica turned out in their numbers to join the local Cuban community in celebrating their National Day marking the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution. Hosted at the Millsborough residence of the Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica Ines Fors Fernandez and her husband Ibrahim Ortega last Sunday, the fiesta was also attended by members of the Jamaican Government as well as the diplomatic corps.
In highlighting the achievement of her country, Ambassador Fern‡ndez noted, "Cuba has free education, free healthcare, and a low infant mortality rate," all achieved since the revolution.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kamina Johnson-Smith, spoke to the strong bonds between Jamaica and its closest Caribbean neighbour two countries separated by less than 100 miles.
The reception featured sweet Spanish music by Cuban musician Mellicinth.
As she bellowed Soy Cubano, many in the crowd could not resist swaying to the Spanish beat. The Spanish- Jamaican Food was the highlight of the night, and ranged from roasted pork to curried mussels and other exotic delights -a perfect blending of culinary cultures.
