Robinson becomes NJ president today
Tricia Robinson is expected to be installed as the new president of Netball Jamaica (NJ) at the association’s annual general meeting (AGM), which will be held at the Jamaica Olympic Association headquarters in Kingston today.
The long-awaited AGM has been postponed twice over the past few months because of the unavailability of the audited financial report.
Robinson, who is the first vice-president (VP) of the organisation, is expected to take over the reins from Paula Daley-Morris, who will not be seeking re-election.
Jennifer Headlam, the second VP, is expected to take up Robinson’s post. Leonie Phinn, a director of the board, will move up to the post of second VP.
Janet Johnson-Haughton will remain in her post as treasurer of the organisation.
Former national captain Simone Forbes, Wayne Shaw, Karlene Waugh, Denise Wisdom, and Keyan Murdock are expected to return as directors on the board.
NJ’s constitution stipulates that to be eligible for the presidency, he or she must have been a board member for two years. Robinson is among four board members who are qualified to seek the presidency, with the others being Shaw, Johnson, and Phinn. However, all three candidates have said that they will not be contesting the election, which leaves Robinson as the only contender for the post.
During Daley-Morris’ presidency, the Sunshine Girls took the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, in 2018, but they underperformed at the Netball World Cup in Liverpool, England, last summer. They finished fifth, having missed the semi-finals for the first time in 24 years.
