EL SUNZAL, EL Salvador:

Jamaica's Elishama Beckford will have to use the consolation repechage heat to try and get back into competition at the ISA World Surfing Games after failing to advance from his heat in the second round of the competition under way at Surf City in El Salvador.

Beckford, who is one of two Jamaicans who will be surfing on today's third day, finished fourth in heat 16 of the men's open.

The Bull Bay native managed to catch five waves in the 20-minute heat, however, he was only able to convice the judges to give him scores of 2.93 on his second wave and 3.20 on his third wave for a total of 6.13.

Spain's Gonzalo Guttierrez won the heat with a score of 9.83 while Chile's Noel De La Torre took the second automatic qualifying spot for the third round with a score of 8.63.

In the meantime, debutant Javaun Brown will kick off the repechage round later this afternoon at 4pm Jamaica time when he goes in heat 17 against Daniel Bahr of Iran and Elder Vega of Guatemala.
