ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (CMC):

SHAI HOPE scored an impressive century, but it was not enough to earn his Dubai Capitals a win over Nicholas Pooran’s MI Emirates when the International League T20 continued yesteray.

Hope smashed 101 off 59 balls, but got little other help as the Capitals were limited to 161 for six in their 20 overs in pursuit of the Emirates’ total of 187 for seven, to lose by 26 runs.

He added 54 runs for the opening partnership with Ben Dunk, who scored 10, and then 61 with Brandon McMullen, who made 16, to put the Capitals in a strong position of 115 for one in the 14th over.

However, once Hope was dismissed after striking 11 fours and three sixes with the score 135 for three in the 16th over, the Capitals lost their way.

Fazalhaq Farooqui took 2-22, while West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph finished with 2-43 for the Emirates.

Earlier, after being put in to bat, Pooran scored 59 from 29 deliveries with six sixes and two fours, and together with Tom Banton, who scored 74 from 52 deliveries, put on 109 runs for the third wicket to help get Emirates up to a competitive total.

After Pooran was dismissed, fellow Trinidadian Kieron Pollard scored 22 to ensure the innings did not falter at the death, following the cheap dismissals of Romario Shepherd for four and Joseph, who made a duck.
