UWI eyeing all three points in Real MoBay clash
The Davion Meggo-led UWI Mona Women’s team will be looking to secure all three points when they take on Real MoBay AFC today at the UWI Mona Bowl in Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) action.
UWI will be hunting their first win of the campaign after suffering a heavy 6-0 loss to reigning champions Frazsiers Whip in last week’s season opener.
In a match where several of his players were making their debut in the league, it was a baptism of fire for UWI head coach Meggo.
He said his players have learnt from the defeat and are now ready to take to the field once again.
“They are adjusting very well now that they have seen the level that they need to compete in the Premier League, and they are just as keen to go again on Saturday,” Meggo explained in a pre-match interview.
He said the team’s relative inexperience in the league had played a part in their less than optimal performance against Frazsiers Whip.
Now settled, he is expecting his players will show their quality and prove a more competitive team this time around.
“In their minds, they know that the performance last Saturday was not an indictment of their talent and their ability and what they have to offer. Now, they are ready to actually show that they have a lot more to offer than what happened on Saturday,” he said.
“We not here to just compete in the league and match up with every team. We have already seen what it will be like against the defending champions, so now we want all three points.”
HOME SUPPORT
They will also draw confidence from the fact they will be playing at home, where they are expecting support from the university’s community.
“It is a home game and the reality is that we’re expecting more support than what we had at Arnett. We still had a good handful of support but it is now for us to incentivise the school community to come out and support the team. Their support will be very important for the team.”
Real MoBay will also be looking for their first win of the season after a 3-3 draw with Mile Gully in their opening game.
Also in action, Springer’s United will begin their season with a match against Federal United after sitting out last week’s action because of a bye week.
Defending champions Frazsiers Whip will travel to St Thomas to take on Proven Girls while Los Perfectos are looking for a second win in a row when they take on Wifi United.
Mile Gully will also play hosts to Cavalier while Arnett Gardens will not be in action because of a bye week.
