CEDRIC Titus High blanked William Knibb Memorial High 2-0 in their Zone D clash at the William Knibb playing field in Trelawny yesterday.

The Trelawny derby saw Cedric Titus’s captain, Terron Eccleston, open the scoring in the 29th minute and complete a brace in the 89th minute.

The win keeps Cedric Titus atop the zone with a perfect 12 points from four wins while with their first loss, William Knibb remain second with nine.

Winning coach Wade Crawford highlighted the significance of beating William Knibb for the first time in five years at home.

“It has been five years in the making. William Knibb have had the upper hand for the past five years, especially at home. We were saving it, we actually worked for it, and the boys delivered,” said Crawford, noting the team’s five-year rebuilding process post-COVID.

Crawford described the game as even but they capitalised on limited chances.

“William Knibb gave us a lot, and we also took it to them. It was a top-of-the-table clash, a derby, and I think that alone took the game to another level,” added Crawford.

Meanwhile, losing coach Dewight Jeremiah said the team remained focused on their objective of getting out of the zone.

“A loss today is not going to derail us. We aim to come out of the zone, and I still think we are on par with that,” said Jeremiah.

“A lot of our boys could not play because of behavioural or academic issues, but we are fine. Fine because we have some youngsters I think competed well,” added Jeremiah.

Eccleston gave his team the lead when he skilfully controlled the ball on his chest from a free kick before scoring from inside the 18-yard box. He got his second goal when he curled a free-kick over a wall of players.

In four high-scoring games, Frome High slammed Knockalva 8-0, Maldon High outscored Green Pond High 5-2, Clarendon College drubbed Claude McKay High 6-0 and Manchester High were 5-0 winners over Mt St Joseph.
