Wasteful JC held to draw by Vauxhall
Ian Forbes, manager of former champions Jamaica College (JC), was left disappointed after his team played out a 1-1 draw against hosts Vauxhall High in their ISSA/WATA Manning Cup Zone C match yesterday.
Dwayne Burgher opened the scoring for JC in the 24th minute. However, the Kyle Butler-coached Vauxhall, who are having an excellent season, hit back through a Richard Walker strike in the 44th minute.
In the zone’s other game, former champions St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS), one of the favourites to win this year’s title, thrashed Greater Portmore 11-0 to finish atop the standings with 19 points. They are followed by JC with 17, Vauxhall on 16, and Camperdown with nine.
JC dominated the match from the opening whistle but only had one goal to show for their efforts, squandering several chances in front of goal. Forbes noted that while he was happy his team did not lose, he believed they should have taken all three points.
“I would have preferred a win but playing at Vauxhall is always a different proposition based on the nature of the surface. It is very uneven and as the saying goes, the ball is round and anything can happen,” said Forbes. “The game was dominated by Jamaica College but we just didn’t take our chances because we should have won this game,” he added.
Forbes stated that as his team moves into the second round of the competition, he expects them to improve as the season progresses.
“A draw is always better than a loss and we would have completed the first phase of the competition and we would have had five wins and two drawn games but we would have preferred winning all of them but of course that is part of the process and things will only get better as the teams progress through the competition.
