ST ELIZABETH Technical High School (STETHS) managed to carve out a crucial 3-1 win over Lacovia High in their ISSA daCosta Cup Zone E play-off battle at the STETHS Sports Complex yesterday.

Scoring machine Kaieem Lewis registered STETHS’ first goal in the 17th minute before Jade Lynch struck in the 56th. Lacovia’s Sharmari Vassell pulled one back in stoppage time to make things interesting but, a minute later, Tajay Stephens added to re-establish the advantage.

The win puts STETHS into the round of 32 with 16 points, finishing behind BB Coke who topped Zone E with 18 points. Magotty and Lacovia ended tied on 10 points in third and fourth, respectively.

Head coach of STETHS, Omar Wedderburn, said while the game didn’t go smoothly, he was satisfied with accomplishing the goals the team had set.

“We came out today with our mindset to get the three points. We had the intention to also get a clean sheet but the game turned out different,” said Wedderburn.

“Honestly, I think we met our objective. We planned to keep them out of the middle, to supply the number 9. I think we did that good today,” added Wedderburn.

Meanwhile, Lacovia’s assistant coach Odinga Weller said his plans never materialised.

“Things didn’t quite materialise how we had it in the first half. There is more we have to do on the drawing board to see how best we can recover for the upcoming game,” Weller said.

According to Weller, conceding the opening goal hurt his team’s morale.

“They pretty much held their head down. We were trying to get them back in it. However, by the time things really started to materialise, it was pretty much at the end of the game,” said Weller.
