EXPECT fireworks when Glenmuir High host defending champions Garvey Maceo High in their Group Three top-of-the-table, round-of-16 daCosta Cup football clash tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Following 1-0 and 2-1 wins over Maggotty High and Clarendon College, Glenmuir are on maximum six points and have already booked their spot in the quarter-final round — but they want more.

Garvey Maceo, on four points following a goalless draw with Clarendon College and a 3-2 win over Maggotty, sit second in the group. They are yet to cement their place in the quarter-finals, as defeat tomorrow could open the door for Clarendon College, who meet Maggotty at St Elizabeth Technical. A win for Clarendon College on one point and a loss for Garvey Maceo would lift them to four points, and qualification could then come down to goal difference between themselves and Garvey Maceo.

Despite having already secured their quarter-final berth, Glenmuir will not take their feet off the pedal, as they have a score to settle with the defending champions. The last time both teams met at the same venue in second-round action, Garvey Maceo came out 3-2 winners — just days after Glenmuir had thumped them 4-0 before their home fans.

Glenmuir will want to make sure they eliminate an opponent who could be dangerous going forward, and after a workmanlike display last Saturday away to Clarendon College, the Andre Peart-coached team looks set to continue their winning run. In that game, the likes of Dusting Cohen, Orel Miller, dead-ball specialist Kamarie Wray, and skipper Orane Watson were brilliant, and they will want to continue that same form before their home supporters.

Coach Peart is looking forward to the matchup as he eyes another three points.

“Definitely, the aim is to keep winning and get three points as we want to keep that momentum going, and there will be no easing up,” said Peart shortly after Saturday’s victory.

After being two goals down before staging a big comeback win in their last outing, Garvey Maceo coach Lester Hibbert knows the magnitude of tomorrow’s match. And although a draw would be enough to secure their spot in the quarter-finals, he is not settling for that.

“Definitely, we are going for three points here, as destiny is in our hands. I know Glenmuir will be coming to avenge their last defeat to us, and they will want to ensure that their home fans are happy — but we will be ready for the occasion,” said Hibbert.
