Lampart the star performer at JAAA/Fuller meet
CLARENDON College’s throwing standout, Marla Kay Lampart, was the star performer at the recent JAAA/Charlie Fuller Field Events meet held at Manchester High School.
The defending Class One discus champion and national Under-20 shot put record holder in the event easily won the shot put open with a throw of 14.20 metres, getting the better of University of Technology’s Altonique James, who managed 13.94m.
Lampart, who recently signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Georgia on a full athletics scholarship in the fall, returned to capture the Class One girls’ discus with a throw of 52.89 metres. Dionjah Shaw of Edwin Allen High finished second with 49.55m, while Roman Freemantle of Vere Technical was third with 47.21m.
Gabriel Merchant of Vere Technical won the girls’ Class One shot put with a heave of 13.45m. Edwin Allen’s Shaw was second with 13.14m, and Janelle Young of Clarendon College finished third with 12.04m.
Shandrae Brown of Edwin Allen was the winner in the Class Two shot put with a distance of 13.44m, ahead of Sharanda Wilmot of Holmwood, who threw 12.73m.
Holmwood girls dominated the long jump events. Abigail McKenzie won Class Four with 4.69m, Ashley Dyke took Class Three with 5.05m, and Guyana Peart captured Class One with a jump of 5.14m.
Munro College’s boys had good results at the meet in the throwing events. They were led by Rajeen Street, who captured the Class One discus with a distance of 56.16m, ahead of Kingston College’s Dylan Logan, who was second with 54.87m, and Calabar’s Kamarie Kennedy, third with 53.93m.
Javantae Smith picked up a win in the Class One shot put for Munro with a distance of 17.60m, as Kennedy of Calabar was second with 17.38m and Nkosana of Kingston College third with 17.01m.Branfon Lawrence also gave Munro a win in Class Two shot put with 16.97m.
Calabar picked up wins in the Class Three discus and shot put through Christon Hewitt. He first took the discus with 38.90m, ahead of his teammate Zion Ellis, who was second with 35.06m. Hewitt returned to win the shot put with a heave of 10.78m, with Ellis again finishing second with 10.76m.
Kingston College dominated the long jump winning in all classes. Shyien Phillip won Class One with 6.86m, Odaine Noble took Class Two with 6.76l and Joel Patrick captured the Class Three event with 5.87m.
