Arnett have an opportunity to climb into the top six of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) when they play away to Mount Pleasant in a rescheduled game at Drax Hall today at 3 p.m.

Although the ‘Junglists’ started the campaign slowly, they have improved in recent weeks, with their losses to Chapelton and Mount Pleasant being the only blot on their record over the last seven matches, where they have gathered 11 points.

Arnett are now on 23 points, four behind Mount Pleasant, but only three adrift of Cavalier and Tivoli, over whom they have a better goal difference.

The Philip Williams-coached team lost to Mount Pleasant only two matches ago, but Williams thought they had the better of the chances and just didn’t take them.

Although playing away on this occasion, he said they are aiming for the three points.

“If you looked at the [Arnett-Mount Pleasant] game in terms of chances, about four chances were there, three of which fell to our players, and we were not able to convert, but the team put in a good shift against a very good Mount Pleasant team,” he said.

“The game had a lot of ups and downs. It’s about recovering from the loss and trying to put in a good shift for the next game. We created chances, unfortunately we weren’t able to put away any of those chances that we created. We need three points and we need to get them wherever we can,” he added.

After the narrow win over Arnett, Mount Pleasant fell to an improving Waterhouse, who claimed their first back-to-back win this term.

Mount Pleasant themselves have an opportunity to get to 30 points even though they would remain fourth in the table. However, they would close the gap on third-place Portmore to three points and second-place Racing to five.

Mount Pleasant coach Theodore Whitmore cited tactical indiscipline as the main reason for their defeat against Waterhouse and warned of changes to come.

“When we, as coaches, prepare our team for a game and then at the game our team does what they want to do, you’ll find cases like these.

“We would have prepared for the [Waterhouse] game. We would have explained in team meetings. We just didn’t apply ourselves,” he stated.

He added: “There are a lot of things that need to be done. We have a short turnaround time. There are some things we need to adjust and probably (make) some changes going into the next game on Wednesday.”

In another rescheduled fixture today, Treasure Beach visit the Edward Seaga Sports Complex for a date with Tivoli Gardens FC, while tomorrow, Dunbeholden, who were dubbed 5-0 by Cavalier over a week ago, have a chance at redemption when they host the champions at Dunbeholden Sports Complex. Those games begin at 3 p.m.
