Mount Pleasant capture CFU Shield

Mount Pleasant Academy defeated Delfines del Este of the Dominican Republic 1-0 yesterday to capture the 2026 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield title at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.

Shaquille Bradford scored the lone goal in the 51st minute as the St Ann-based club secured its first-ever CFU Club Shield crown. With the triumph, Mount Pleasant became only the second Jamaican club to win the competition, following Arnett Gardens’ success in 2024.

The victory also booked Mount Pleasant a place in Group B of the 2026 Concacaf Caribbean Cup, where they will join fellow Jamaican clubs Portmore United and Cavalier, along with Dominican Republic representatives Cibao FC and Salcedo FC.

Mount Pleasant’s Sporting Director Paul Christie hailed the achievement, praising the club’s ownership, coaching staff, and players for their commitment throughout the campaign.

“It is just a feeling that you can’t tired of, and so I just want to salute the ownership of Peter Goule and his wife, and the technical team led by Theodore Whitmore and Davion Ferguson, and also our captain Daniel Green and the rest of the staff for their hard work and dedication,” said Christie.

He added: “We came here and we adapted to the conditions and we did what we had to do. And, in return, we are now the Caribbean Shield champions, and so it is definitely a good feeling.”

Mount Pleasant enjoyed an outstanding defensive tournament, conceding just one goal throughout the competition — something Christie attributed to the team’s improved backline.

“We only conceded one goal throughout this tournament and this is due to our defensive stability. We recognised over the last season that we had been conceding a bit more goals than normal, so we made an effort to solidify the defence and it has been bearing fruit,” he said.

Christie admitted that the team could have won more comfortably after creating several scoring opportunities that went unconverted.

“We played against a worthy opponent because they came here and they did well; but yes, we were a bit wasteful in front of goal. However, they pushed us up to the 90th minute and we prevailed — and to God be the glory.”
