Seven-time champions Cornwall College crushed Troy High School 20-0 on the second day of the ISSA Ben Francis Knockout Tournament at the Cornwall College playing field yesterday, cruising into the next round in emphatic fashion.

Carlondo Morris and Shakiem Gibson led the charge with four goals each as Cornwall dominated from start to finish.

Morris found the net in the second, 15th, 23rd and 25th minutes, while Gibson scored in the 22nd, 26th, 30th and 35th minutes.

Ameche Robison added a goal in the eighth minute, while Christopher Allen scored in the 28th, Mekhi Foster in the 29th, Demarco Finnikin in the 39th and Aleko Henry in the 46th.

Despite the comfortable victory, Cornwall coach Leacroft Lettman said his team still had areas to improve, particularly with passing accuracy and ball circulation.

“I think the boys are coming into their own. We got some passes but the tempo of the game was a little bit slow around the 10th minute. We could have created some more chances but, overall, we got the win,” said Lettman.

Meanwhile, Frome Technical High edged Brown’s Town High 2-1, with coach Cleighton Stephens pleased with his team’s execution despite a late lapse in concentration.

Marquez Dunn and Wayne Mullings scored for Frome to secure the victory.

“It was a pretty good game. Brown’s Town came really good. We have grown match by match. Day by day, the boys are playing much better. We got a little complacent but fought and got the victory,” said Stephens.

The Ben Francis Knockout Tournament resumes on Saturday, September 26.
