Ben Francis KO: Rampant Cornwall back in action

RIDING HIGH after a 20-0 trouncing of Troy High in their opening match, seven-time champions Cornwall College will look to continue their impressive start today when they face Knox College in the round of 32 of the Ben Francis KO competition at the Cornwall playing field, starting at 3 p.m.

The St James-based hosts will be aiming to produce an entertaining display in front of their home fans while securing passage to the next round of the win-or-go-home competition.

Speaking to The Gleaner, head coach Leacroft Lettman said the team aims to maintain respect for the game and evolve through disciplined play.

“If we apply ourselves and do the right things every game, we will be successful. We have to treat the game with respect and go out and do the correct things in the right areas on the field. Our objective is to apply the discipline in each area and be aggressive in the offensive,” said Lettman.

An interesting game looms as defending champions Clarendon College will bow into the competition after they were awarded a bye following Bustamante High’s withdrawal.

The Clarendon-based team will host May Day High at 3 p.m.

Clarendon’s coach Devon Anderson said the team is ready for action

“We are expecting a good performance from the team. We have been sitting down for a while waiting so we are kind of rusty. “Nevertheless, we are going to go out there and give a good account of ourselves,” said Anderson.

Fifteen games scheduled for today will start at 3 p.m. while the St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) versus Denbigh match will start at 4 p.m.
