Jamaica College (JC) has been thrown out of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Walker Cup final following a meeting of the association’s disciplinary committee over the eligibility of footballer Jamone Lyle.
The Old Hope Road-based school has been removed from the knockout competition.
The ruling by ISSA follows reports on Monday that Lyle, a minor, holds a signed professional contract with Jamaica Premier League club Waterhouse FC.
That makes him ineligible for ISSA competitions, which are for amateur players only.
Since September 1, 2015, ISSA rules have barred players with professional contracts from all its competitions.
JC acknowledged the concerns in a press release issued after the reports surfaced.
The school also asked that Lyle's privacy be respected while the matter is addressed.
ISSA's Competitions Officer, Ewan Scott, told TVJ Sports on Monday that the disciplinary committee would meet within 48 hours to decide what sanctions JC would face.
JC Principal Wayne Robinson described it as a disappointing day for the school.
