ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC):

All-rounder Shamar Springer has earned a maiden call-up to the West Indies Test squad for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh.

Springer replaces fellow all-rounder Keemo Paul, who Cricket West Indies (CWI) said will return home for “personal and family reasons”.

In a statement, CWI said pacers Ojay Shields and Nial Smith were also considered but were ultimately ruled out of contention because of injury.

The 28-year-old Barbadian has represented the West Indies in 12 Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals.

Springer finished the recently concluded five-match T20 International series against India with seven wickets, the second-highest tally in the series behind Paul’s eight.
