Never one to push horses, Spencer Chung could be priming his American, DREAMBEACHDREAMING, as a contender for major distance races next season after the Slumber-Manitou Moon gelding debuted with a come-from-behind win at five and a half furlongs on August 29.

Lining up against local-breds, three- and four-year-olds, non-winners of four races, and fellow importees, non-winners-of-two, DREAMBEACHDREAMING should relish Saturday’s seven furlongs for his second outing.

A son of Great Britain-bred Slumber, a multiple stakes winner on grass in both England and the United States, three-year-old DREAMBEACHDREAMING was snagged for US$14,000 at the June 2025 Ocala Sale for two-year-olds and horses of racing age.

Debuting as a three-year-old this August, DREAMBEACHDREAMING picked off local-bred winners from his wide draw in an eight-horse field, launching his attack at DASHALLDAY in mid-track before powering away inside the final furlong.

DREAMBEACHDREAMING’s fluid running style suggests that he should be even better going longer, further enhancing Slumber, the only stallion standing in New York to have sired graded-stakes winners in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 since entering stud in 2017.

Among DREAMBEACHDREAMING’s rivals are fellow Americans UNBELIEVABLE POWER and OLIVIA D’ORO, fillies who have both raced on seven occasions, giving them the advantage of experience.

However, DREAMBEACHDREAMING’s form at exercise, galloping five and a half furlongs in 1:06.0 on Monday, suggests that Chung’s gelding has come on a ton since clocking 1:07.3 for the distance on debut.

Chung, who nursed 2011 Horse of the Year Saint Cecelia to 14 consecutive career wins, could have another big one on his hands.
