Patricia Mary Brown laid to rest

Patricia Mary Brown, the late wife of renowned family practitioner and former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) member of parliament, Dr Marco Brown, was given a send-off at the St James Parish Church.
Brown, who was highly active in service to the Montego Bay community and who supported her husband's political career during the 1970s and 1980s, died on July 5 at age 85 after a period of illness.
Her thanksgiving service last Friday was attended by several members of the business and medical communities, as well as Custos Ewen Corrodus, JLP Leader Andrew Holness and members of parliament Edmund Bartlett and Dr Horace Chang.
"Mary Brown was fun-loving. She loved her family and friends. We shall miss the friendship which she extended to all," said family friend Sheila Hart.
Mitsy Hayles, a former employee of Brown's, remembered the deceased as a gentle giant.
"She was independent, and her petite frame would fool anyone, but she was a gentle giant. Whenever any of her female friends died, she would automatically adopt their children, regardless of their ages."
The Reverend Canon Justin Nembhard in his sermon declared that Brown lived a life of Christ-centred joy.
STRIVING FOR UPWARD PRIZE
"God's intention for us is that we live lives full of Christian joy. Christians are God's athletes, and we are striving for the upward prize of the high calling of God in Jesus Christ," said Nembhard.
"Our sister, Mary, was a believer who experienced the joy of Jesus Christ."
Brown was born in New Zealand on March 25, 1927, and married Marco Brown on June 8, 1953, after they met through an acquaintance in London. Their union produced one son, Henry 'Hank' Brown, and they were later blessed with granddaughter Rosemarie Brown.
Brown was also a well-known businesswoman and operated a popular restaurant and bar in Montego Bay. She also loved animals, especially dogs.
