Dean moving south of Jamaica

Up to a short while ago the centre of system was located immediately south of the tip of St. Thomas.



The dangerous eye wall, which comprises powerful hurricane wind, is now battering sections of Portland and St. Thomas.



The system is continuing to move to the west at 20 miles per hour. This is faster that it was moving a earlier today.



JPS shutting down in east and south



The Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS, says it has started its phased shut down of its system in eastern and southern parishes.



The Head of Corporate Communications Winsome Callum says there could be an Islandwide shut down soon:



Hurricane affecting C&W



Cable and Wireless is reporting that some customers in St Thomas and St Catherine are without telephone service. Among the areas affected are Morant Bay, Bath, Trinityville, Cedar Valley and Seaforth.



Police teams spreading across island



Communications Director at the Jamaica Constabulary Force, says teams of police personnel have been dispatched across the island.
