Massive prison break attempt thwarted

Quick action by national security officials has thwarted plans of a massive prison break at the Tower Street Adult Correction Institution in Kingston, Jamaica.

Well-placed sources say top national security figures including National Security Minister, Dwight Nelson have been huddled in meetings to formulate an action plan.

It’s understood that the break out was scheduled to be carried out over the weekend at the Central Kingston based institution.

When contacted National Security Minister Dwight Nelson would not say much on the planned prison break, but told the Sunday Gleaner that he was being briefed and promised that more information would be forthcoming today.

Highly-placed police sources say the Police High Command has issued instructions to have the perimeter area of the island’s largest maximum security facility beefed up by additional security presence.

The last massive break occurred 11 years ago when more than 52 prisoners broke free from the Remand Correctional Centre.
