Shaw to make submission on how to deal with financial shortfalls
The Finance Minister Audley Shaw is expected to make a submission to the Cabinet today on the Government’s plans to deal with any financial shortfall.
It is expected that the finance minister will outline his recommendations in respect of funds raised externally.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding had asked the finance minister to prepare a report on how the Government could secure assistance from lending agencies.
Jamaica is currently holding talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with the expectation of resuming a borrowing relationship.
On Thursday, the finance minister traveled to Haiti to attend a meeting put on by the Inter – American Development Bank (IDB).
The Prime Minister said the finance minister’s attendance at the meeting was intended to initiate talks with the IDB.
According to Mr Golding, the current economic crisis requires that Jamaica hold discussions with the bank in the event that it will need to seek its help.
