The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is also reporting significant challenges caused by severe damage to its power delivery system, particularly in the eastern and southern parishes.
According to the JPS, the restoration process is much slower in the parishes of St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, St Thomas and Portland.
The light and power company says assessment has indicated that the damage to the company’s transmission system in these areas is far greater than that caused by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
Meanwhile, the JPS says it is gradually restoring power supply to customers in sections of Kingston and St. Andrew, St James, Trelawny, Hanover, Westmoreland, and St Ann.
