Ruddock wins athletics championship
Former world youth silver medallist, Natasha Ruddock was in good form at the weekend with a record run at the National Junior College Athletics Association Indoor Track and Field Championships in Illinois, USA.
The former St. Jago High athlete in her first year at Essex County College won the women’s 60 metre hurdles in a record 8.15 seconds in the final on Saturday.
Ruddock had broken the record in the semi-final when she posted 8.9, to smash Melaine Walker record of 8.26 seconds set in 2004.
Former Edwin Allen athlete Andrea Sutherland, competing for Barton County College, won the gold medal in the 600 metres in one minute 35.87 seconds.
In the 800 metres, Sutherland won the silver in 2.17.20 seconds.
Former St Jago High jumper Sasha-Kaye Matthias won two silver medals.
Competing for Essex County College, Matthias did 5.80 metre in the long jump and 11.64 metre in the triple jump.
