Firefighters from the York Park Fire station were up late last night trying to contain bush fires, which were blazing in sections of Jacks Hill in St. Andrew.
Superintendent Denzle Kerr said most of the fires, especially in the Tavistock area were inaccessible to the fire brigade.
He said the fire department was taking no chances and would be monitoring the situation closely.
Superintendent Kerr said firemen were on standby in case the fires began posing a threat to houses.
