Cabinet agrees to separate RPD

Cabinet has agreed to reactivate the Revenue Protection Department, within the finance ministry as a separate entity from the Financial Investigation Division (FID).



Finance Minister, Audley Shaw said the Department has not been able to fulfill its role effectively as part of the FID.



Mr. Shaw said the FID would also be restructured in a bid to better investigate financial crimes.



Mr. Shaw said the World Bank has earmarked US$300,000 to carry out a diagnostic study on governance and corruption in Jamaica.
