Jamaican jockey Rajiv Maragh has been given the leg up on defending champion Einstein in the US$400,000 Grade 2 Clark Handicap on Friday at Churchill Downs.
With regular race day jockey Julien Leparoux was unavailable because of riding commitments in Japan, trainer Helen Pitts chose the in-form Maragh for the assignment from among a host of offers she received.
Maragh will partner the seven-year-old in what probably will be his last start before he’s retired to begin his stud career next year at Adena Springs Farm.
Maragh has been enjoying a superb year in the saddle, already garnering earnings of $11.4 million across several tracks.
He’s currently fifth in the jockeys’ standings at Aqueduct.
