FLASH FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT FOR NORTHERN PARISHES

Published:Monday | November 12, 2007 | 12:45 PM

The Meteorological Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for low-lying and flood prone areas of northern parishes effective until 5:00 p.m. today.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding has been reported or will occur shortly. Motorists and pedestrians should not attempt to cross flooded roadways or other low-lying areas as strong currents are likely. Residents in low-lying areas should be on the alert for rising waters and be ready to move quickly to higher ground.

A Surface to Upper level Trough west of Jamaica is producing an area of disturbed weather over sections of the island that also extends to the south. Cloudiness with outbreaks of moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms

has been affecting particularly northern parishes. Cloudy periods with intermittent showers and thunderstorms are likely to persist until at least Wednesday especially over the north coast.

Fishers and other marine interests are being advised to

exercise caution as strong, gusty winds and deteriorating

sea conditions are likely in the vicinity of

thundershowers over inshore and offshore areas.

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the

situation.
