Attorney General Dorothy Lightbourne said the government has no plans at this time to hold a referendum on the death penalty.
Senator Lightbourne told the Upper House this morning, that the administration only plan to put the matter to a consensus vote in Parliament.
A consensus vote can only be done after a joint select committee of parliament, reviews and adopts the report of the Charter of Rights Committee.
