Guyana’s Teaching Service Commission (TSC) reportedly dismissed 30 teachers between January and March on grounds, which included sexual molestation.

The Commission has also disciplined 80 teachers since the start of the year.

The TSC said charges for which teachers were dismissed include misconduct, conduct unbecoming of a teacher, late notices of resignation and unauthorised absence.

Teachers were disciplined by interdiction, reprimand and probation.

Commission sources also report that a principal of a Grade A Secondary School was demoted to Deputy Head Teacher, after being charged by the Commission for inefficiency and gross misconduct of a Principal.

The Commission is also awaiting reports from investigations being done by the Ministry of Education, into allegations of sexual misconduct by teachers in several schools across the island.
