Jamaica’s national 400-metre hurdler Ian Weakley has quit international competition in the wake of a disappointing performance at the National Senior Track and Field Championships, which ended last night at the National Stadium.
Weakley failed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics after finishing fifth in the Men’s 400-metre hurdles final on Saturday night.
He clocked 49.77 seconds in the event won by Danny McFarlane in 48.64 seconds.
Weakley said he was thinking about retiring leading up to the Olympic Trials.
The 34 year old Weakley has a personal best of 48.55 seconds, achieved in June 2003 in Trikala, Greece.
