TROPICAL DEPRESSION FIVE FORMS NEAR THE WINDWARD ISLANDS

At 4:00 p.m. the centre of Tropical Depression Five was located near Latitude 12.9 degrees north and longitude 62.4 degrees west or about 250 kilometres southwest of Martinique in the Windward Islands.



The depression is moving towards the west near 35 km/h and a west to west-northwest motion, with some decrease in forward speed is expected over the next 24 hours.



Maximum sustained winds are near 55 km/h with higher gusts. The depression is expected to become a Tropical Storm tonight or Friday.



Early projections are for the centre of the Tropical cyclone to be in the vicinity of Jamaica as a Tropical Storm on Sunday afternoon.



All interests particularly fishers on the banks and cays are advised to pay special attention to subsequent releases from the Meteorological Service.
