NCDA launch clinic for drug abusers
The National Council on Drug Abuse (NCDA)launched its Community Clinic and Services for Substance Abusers and Families, today.
The move is in response to the issues of drug abuse, crime, violence, HIV/AIDS and the trauma being experienced by numerous family members.
The pilot project will last for two years in 10 communities across the island.
Michael Tucker, the executive director of the National Council on Drug Abuse said the aim of the project is to operate a comprehensive intervention programme for substance abusers, children, and family members at the community level.
The centres will be operated through a partnership with community-based Non Governmental Organisations and tertiary level training institutions.
The programme is sponsored by the National Health Fund (NHF). The fund is contributing $11.8 million.
