The Mayor of Lucea, Lloyd Hill said a Stop Order was placed on all burials at the Royale Rest Cemetery in Burnt Ground, Hanover.
This follows a two days protest by several residents in Burnt Ground, who believe that the chemical used in embalming the bodies, will contaminate their underground water supply.
The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), and the Natural Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA) have given approval for bodies to be buried at the cemetery.
It is understood that a meeting is scheduled for Thursday, involving members of the political directorate and residents of Burnt Ground to discuss the issue
sanction.
