Oh Christmas shoot: Denecia Green is a stunner in her fashion closet
It’s officially the most wonderful time of the year. And many celebrate this exciting season in different ways. As a firm believer in Christmas and self-love, Denecia Green has made it her mission to merge the two in picture-perfect fashion. She took us behind the scenes into her style closet over the years.
According to Green, her annual Christmas shoot was inspired by the popular Yuletide-themed family portraits and matching pyjamas worn by couples in December. “I didn’t have that but I loved the concept. So I decided to go with what I had, myself and my brand,” she told Living.
She sources her featured looks from either Amazon or Fashion Nova, then puts her Pinterest creativity to work in elevating the presented styles with do-it-yourself (DIY) décor. Her style on these shoots range from chic lingerie and positively cute ‘jammies’ to festive Ms Claus fits and head-turning formal wear. Green continues to tip the scale between naughty and nice, and these seasonal shoots have become a hit as a result of her creativity.
“Once it is unique and cute, I will give it a try. And once it has the Christmas colours, I’m going for it. But I don’t have a particular theme for each year. I just aim to look differently from the last shoot. For example, if I wore a monokini in 2022, I would switch to a dress in 2023. It’s important to switch and diversify the looks,” the published author highlighted.
Her first photoshoot was executed at Pure Studios with Jamie Barnett. Buying the costume online to prepare for the session, she fell right into character, courtesy of the lights, camera and wide range of props to explore.
“Years later, having done multiple shoots, I’ve deviated from an actual studio to finding my own location and creating my own set, working collaboratively alongside the photographer,” she revealed.
The advantage of making this switch includes flexibility, as opposed to the time constraints that come with a studio, as well as the opportunity to make multiple outfit changes.
Intimidation, she admitted, crept in during her first shoot because her featured line was a bit risqué. Eventually, she warmed up and was grateful for her photographer’s eye for detail, vision, guidance and professionalism. “I’m always impressed with the final product, so I will definitely continue to work with Jamie.”
Apart from the religious significance as it relates to the gift of God’s love, hope and joy, for Green, Christmas is a time for Green to exchange gifts, spend quality time with family and go a little extra in the fashion department.
“I like themed events, so Christmas is no different. It’s another reason for me to dress up. It helps that my favourite colour is red and this season brings that radiant hue into the spotlight. It’s also an opportunity for others to see the face behind my brand. And my little community looks forward to this annual shoot,” she said.
If you are looking to do an annual Christmas shoot, she recommends booking a studio as the props are ideal for the occasion. “Look at the concepts that you want to convey, find outfits to match that vision and have fun with it. ‘Tis the season to be jolly, after all,” the entrepreneur advised.
