Ja's Rachel Scott new Proenza Schouler creative director
Jamaican fashion designer Rachel Scott is excited to take on her new role as creative director of New York-based fashion brand Proenza Schouler, following Tuesday’s announcement.
The Diotima founder and creative director will succeed Proenza Schouler co-founders Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, who were appointed as Loewe’s new creative directors earlier this year after Jonathan Anderson's exit for Christian Dior.
“I hold deep respect for the beauty and world Jack and Lazaro so brilliantly crafted, and I look forward to bringing my perspective in dialogue with their legacy," shared Scott in a Proenza Schouler release.
Not new to major milestones in fashion, Scott last year received the American Womenswear Designer of the Year Award at the 2024 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards in New York City. Contenders in the category included Hernandez and McCollough, Marc Jacobs, Thom Browne, and Tory Burch. She also walked away with the CFDA Emerging Designer of the Year honours in 2023.
Proenza Schouler hailed Rachel Scott’s appointment as a natural fit for the brand, praising her vision and ability to balance innovation with craftsmanship.
"As one of the most celebrated design talents of today, Rachel brings a fresh and female perspective to a brand built on the spirit of the modern American woman. Her profound understanding of Proenza Schouler’s brand codes, paired with her exceptional ability to marry craft with innovation, made her the natural choice to lead the house forward," said Shira Suveyke Snyder, Proenza Schouler’s chief executive officer in the brand's release.
Scott has years of experience in fashion, having worked in Milan and New York and for brands such as Rachel Comey in New York. She launched her brand Diotima in 2021 and will continue at its helm. Diotima will have its first runway show during New York Fashion Week on Monday, September 15.
As for her first collection under Proenza Schouler, Vogue Business states that the 2026 spring collection will be shown in presentation form next week. Before her official appointment, Scott was privately invited to work with the brand’s studio on a consulting basis earlier this year.
