Beneath a canopy of red lanterns at The Pinnacle in Montego Bay, patrons gathered on Sunday for the Chinese Spring Festival as the Chinese community welcomed the Year of the Horse and marked 172 years of Chinese presence on the island. Festival chair Yangsen Li described the evening as a “homecoming”, reflecting on the journey of Chinese ancestors who arrived in 1854 and helped shape Jamaica’s cultural and commercial life. The celebration featured lion dances, martial arts, a horse processional by Chukka Caribbean Adventures and a performance by Tessanne Chin. Senior government officials and Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica Wang Jinfeng were also in attendance. Something Extra has the social highlights.
